Our Work

Strategic research priorities

  • Developing next-generation diagnostic tools for rapid real-time detection of prion and protein-misfolding diseases, including chronic wasting disease (CWD) in cervids and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease in humans.

  • Devising novel remediation strategies for the targeted destruction, removal, or neutralization of infectious prions across varied settings.

  • Uncovering the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying developing protein-misfolding events associated with aging, chemical exposure, or prion exposure.

  • Identifying key transmission routes associated with the spread of infectious prions in diverse ecological settings.

  • Engaging the human dimensions of neurodegenerative diseases in animals and humans.
